ON GOING: Adirondack Artists' Guild Plein Air Painting Group

New this year!

Starting January 9, 2010 Five Indoor Sessions. Stay tuned for outdoor sessions to begin in May, 2010.

Please call to register.

Nancy Brossard at her easel. Nancy paints almost exclusively plein air.

Saturday Plein Air Painters are meeting for an indoor go. The weather out there is frightful but that doesn't mean creativity stops. The Saturday Plein air painters will be meeting indoors for five sessions at the Art Annex upstairs from the Guild Gallery and Borealis Color January 9, 23, February 6, 20 and March 6 from 10- 1 or so.
Join Diane Leifheit and other guild members in a warm spot to review the unfinished plein air pieces begun this past season. So many Saturdays this past summer fulfilled their promise of rain by 10:30 that there is still plenty of work to do. There will also be an option to set up still lifes to work from.
New artists are welcome. Bring your own materials and references. Fee: $35 for 5 weeks.

The Saturday Plein Air Painters begin meeting in the spring. Nearly a dozen local artists meet at various locations in the Tri- Lakes area to paint May through October. Participants are joined by Guild members Nancy Brossard, Sandra Hildreth, Jackie Altman and Diane Leifheit. Painting locations vary from session to session. The first session is held in Saranac Lake then other locations are scheduled at various venues including the Paul Smiths Visitor’s Center, a Gabriels farm which enjoys 360 degree views of the High Peaks to St. Regis Mountain and the Wilmington Monument area on the River Road between Lake Placid and Wilminton. If the autumn weather holds the painting session locations will occur in several colorful backroad locations in the Tri-Lakes area.

Artists provide their own materials which should include water, snacks, sunscreen and bug repellent. The first meeting is scheduled for May 16 from 9 to 12:30 at the Guild gallery. Artists can choose to paint along the river walk or in any of Saranac Lakes downtown parks. Each session location will be decided at the end of the current session by the participants. Beginning in June, artists will meet monthly every second and fourth Saturday through November.
The painting sessions are designed to encourage painters to get out and paint the Adirondack locale from life. This can be a real challenge for some, however the reward for working on a painting in the sun or clouds is an immediate connection to the subject that translates into a fresh and lively piece of work. As weather in the Adirondacks is nortoriously unpredictable, the group will meet at Bluseed Studios in Saranac Lake if bad weather prevails.
This years locations will include some of last years spots and some new hidden places. Participants will be offered the opportunity to show their work during the September Saranac Lake 3rd Thursday Art Walk at the Guild Gallery. For more information call the Adirondack Artist Guild at 891-2615 or Diane Leifheit.
The Adirondack Artists’ Guild is a cooperative retail art gallery representing a diverse group of working artists residing in the Tri-Lakes region of the Adirondack Park. The Guild is located on the web at adirondackartistsguild.com.
