ON GOING: Adirondack Artists' Guild Plein Air Painting Group

The Adirondack Artists Guild at 52 Main Street, is scheduling plein air painting opportunities for Saturday mornings beginning in May through November. Local artists who enjoy painting out of doors with the camaraderie of other painters are invited to sign up at the Guild art gallery. Artists of all levels of painting skills are welcome to participate.
Artists provide their own materials which should include water, snacks, sunscreen and bug repellent. The first meeting is scheduled for May 17 from 9 to 12:30 at the Guild gallery. Artists can choose to paint along the river walk or in any of Saranac Lakes downtown parks. Each session location will be decided at the end of the current session by the participants. Beginning in June, artists will meet monthly every second and fourth Saturday through November.
The painting sessions are designed to encourage painters to get out and paint the Adirondack locale from life. This can be a real challenge for some, however the reward for working on a painting in the sun or clouds is an immediate connection to the subject that translates into a fresh and lively piece of work. As weather in the Adirondacks is nortoriously unpredictable, the group will meet at Bluseed Studios in Saranac Lake if bad weather prevails.
The Saturday Plein Air Painters began last spring with nearly a dozen local artists meeting at various locations in the Tri- Lakes area to paint. Participants were joined by Guild members Nancy Brossard, Sandra Hildreth and Diane Leifheit. Painting locations varied from session to session beginning in Saranac Lake then another session at the Paul Smiths Visitor’s Center and another at a farm which enjoys 360 degree views of the High Peaks to St. Regis Mountain. In the autumn weather held and painting session locations included Lake Placid, the Saranac River and colorful scenes along backroads.
This years locations will include some of last years spots and some new hidden places. Participants will be offered the opportunity to show their work during the September Saranac Lake 3rd Thursday Art Walk at the Guild Gallery. For more information call the Adirondack Artist Guild at 891-2615 or Diane Leifheit.
The Adirondack Artists’ Guild is a cooperative retail art gallery representing a diverse group of working artists residing in the Tri-Lakes region of the Adirondack Park. The Guild is located on the web at adirondackartistsguild.com.
